Welcome to Rescue Foundations

If you recently adopted a rescue or shelter dog, welcome. You are in the right place.

Bringing home a rescue dog can be exciting, but the adjustment period is not always easy for the dog or the owner. Every dog comes from a different background, and every dog handles change differently. Some settle in quickly. Others need more time, structure, and support before they feel comfortable in their new home.

A rescue dog may be adjusting to a completely different routine, new people, new animals, new rules, and a home they do not fully understand yet. That stress can show up as barking, pacing, pulling on the leash, trouble settling, clinginess, uncertainty, or being harder to manage than expected.

Rescue Foundations is a private training program designed to help newly adopted dogs adjust with more structure, clearer communication, better routines, and support during the transition period.

A lot of the time, these dogs are not trying to be difficult. They are still learning what is safe, predictable, and expected of them. The goal is to help your dog settle in more successfully, help you feel more confident, and make everyday life together feel more manageable.

Is Rescue Foundations Right for You?

Rescue Foundations is a good fit for newly adopted dogs that need help adjusting to their new home and learning how to settle into everyday life.

Some rescue dogs adjust quickly, while others may seem anxious, overly excited, clingy, unsure, shut down, or difficult to manage during the transition period. A lot of owners are not sure what is normal, what their dog needs, or how much structure and guidance to provide during those first few weeks or months.

This program may be a good fit if:

  • You recently adopted a dog from a shelter, rescue, foster, or rehoming situation
  • Your dog is struggling to settle into the home
  • Your dog is pulling, jumping, barking, pacing, or having trouble listening
  • Your dog seems unsure, overwhelmed, overly excited, or difficult to calm down
  • You want help building routines, structure, and better habits early on
  • You want private support instead of trying to figure everything out alone

If your dog is showing serious aggression, bite history, severe fear, or intense reactivity, a behavior consultation may be a better place to start.

Where Learning Starts

Rescue Foundations is about helping your newly adopted dog adjust to their new home with more structure, trust, and support during the transition.

At this stage, we are not rushing into commands or expecting your dog to understand everything right away. Many rescue dogs first need help feeling more secure, learning the routine, building a connection with their new owner, and understanding what is expected in their new life. Depending on your dog’s needs, we may work on trust-building, engagement, structured play, foundation obedience skills, leash manners, emotional regulation, routine building, and helping your dog adapt to everyday life in your home.

We also look at what is happening between sessions. Structure, consistency, management, and realistic expectations all matter during the adjustment period. Every rescue dog is different, so the exact focus depends on your dog, your home, and how your dog is adjusting. The goal is to build a foundation that helps life feel more settled now and supports the dog you are hoping to raise.

How Rescue Foundations Works

Rescue Foundations is a 6-session private training program that meets once a week. Each session is about 1 hour long.

This is a one-on-one program built around your dog, your home, and your goals. Each week builds from the previous week, so your dog is not just learning random skills. The goal is to help your dog adjust more successfully while building better habits, routines, and communication along the way.

We start with the foundation, then continue adding structure, routines, manners, and age-appropriate learning based on how your dog is adjusting and progressing in the home.

Program includes:

  • 6 private rescue dog training sessions
  • Weekly sessions
  • 1-hour sessions
  • One-on-one coaching
  • A plan built around your dog, home, and goals
  • Weekly check-ins on adjustment challenges, routines, manners, and everyday life skills
  • Homework each week, so you know what to practice between sessions
  • A training log to help track progress, notice patterns, and stay more consistent
